GraminaVagamon

The area

A hill station that is mostly grass, cloud and tea.

Vagamon sits at about 1,100 metres in Idukki, between Kottayam and the high range. It is small enough to see in a day and quiet enough that most people stay two. Everything below is measured from our gate.

Worth the drive

Six places, all inside forty minutes.

Kolahalamedu viewpoint

3 km · 7 min

The closest thing to the resort and the best sunrise on this side of the hill. Go before seven, before the coach parties.

Vagamon pine forest

8 km · 15 min

Planted rows on a slope, with a paid entry and a short walk in. Cloud sits in it most afternoons.

Vagamon meadows

9 km · 18 min

The rolling grass hills the town is known for. Also where the paragliding launches happen in season.

Thangalpara

11 km · 22 min

A rock outcrop with a dargah at the top and one of the widest views in Idukki.

Marmala waterfall

18 km · 40 min

Worth the rough last stretch after rain. Ask us before you go if the road is holding up.

Kurisumala & Mundakayam ghat

12 km · 25 min

The road down the ghat has hairpins with viewpoints at almost every bend.

When to come

There is no bad month, only different weather.

December to February

Cold mornings, clear afternoons, and the busiest weekends of the year. Book two to three weeks ahead.

March to May

Warm days, cool nights, and the pool at its best. The quietest stretch and the easiest to get a room.

June to November

Monsoon. Cloud through the courtyard, waterfalls running full, and the tea gardens at their greenest.
